Joe Sheppard Manney, age 66, of Gulfport, passed away on Tuesday, September 20, 2011.
Mr. Manney was born in Meridian to Edwin Garland and Suzette Pairett Manney. After graduating from the University of Southern MS, he entered the United States Navy and served in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in 1969 with the rank of LTjg. Joe worked a variety of jobs from 1969-1983 including one with the State Employment Security Commission and several with hotel/restaurant chains. He owned his own advertising agency for 5 years and also worked for several years as a substitute teacher in Gulfport. The happiest time of his life was the time he spent in China as an international educator from 2002-2007.
He was preceded in death by his parents; nephew, Paul Manney.
He is survived by his sister, Billie Crockett of Gulfport and brother, Eddie Manney (Claire) of Pearl, MS; nieces, Sherri Deane and Lynn M. Nichols; and his nephew, James C. Deane.
Services will be held on Thursday, September 22, 2011, at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Rd., Gulfport, at 12:30 p.m. Friends may visit one hour prior to services.
Burial will follow at Biloxi National Cemetery.
