Joan Campbell Simms, age 88, passed away on June 29, 2021 in Vancleave.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Harold Simms; sisters, Donna Hanna and Mary Hull; brother, Robert Campbell; and grandsons, Cody and John Simms.
She is survived by three children Cheryl Dobert (David Warren Dobert), William Harold Simms II (Sunae Simms), Wesley Ashton Simms (Peggy Simms); grandchildren, David William Dobert, Jennifer Simms, Rebecca Simms, Laura Pearson, William Simms, Anna Marie Simms; and great-grandchildren, Ayden Bates, William Ryder Simms, Ava Rose Makyhleigh Lamb, McKenzie Ingersoll Simms and Rachel Daley.
Joan was the loving wife of William Harold Simms, until his death in 2007. A loving marriage for 53 years, Joan and Bill had 3 children whom they loved dearly. She was a grandmother of 8 and a great-grandmother of 5.
Her first job was at the Venetian Theatre in Seattle during her high school years. After graduating Garfield High School in Seattle, she took a job as an operator with Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company. Her career began in 1951 in Seattle. She later moved to Florida and continued her job as Assistant Network Manager with Southern Bell. Through the years, she worked her way up to Network Provisioning Engineer. Joan retired on November 1, 1991 after a rewarding 40 year career. She was also a lifetime member of Telephone Pioneers of America.
Joan was a wonderful and loving mother and grandmother. She was an avid gardener and loved to paint and cook. She was a real jewel in the kitchen.
The family would like to thank everyone for all the kind words and support during this difficult time.
