Joan Ruiz

Joan Audrey Danner Ruiz passed away at her home on March 10, 2021, surrounded by family, at the age of 86.
She was born on September 24, 1934 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Joan grew up in Metairie. She graduated from John McDonogh 34 High School in 1951. Joan received her bachelors degree from Loyola University in 1954 and received her Juris Doctorate Degree in 1956 from Loyola School of Law. She was the 39th female attorney admitted to the Louisiana Bar Association. With ease, she was able to balance a law practice while raising her family at a time when this dual role for a woman was unheard of.
Her unconditional love for her family lasted to the very end of her life. She touched the lives of many people and will be missed.
Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Thomas Ruiz; her father Milton John Danner; her mother, Eva Luce Danner; and her beloved son, Milton John Ruiz.
She is survived by her beloved daughter, Joan Cynthia Ruiz (John); and her son, Ronald Thomas Ruiz (Gail); her beloved grandchildren, Jeffrey and Jordan Sturcke, Ronnie, Tommie (Cheryl), Jerry, Bryan Jr., Jason (Sharon), Gary (Brienne), Troy (Nancy), Chad (Jenny), and Joey (Tricia) Ruiz; her fourteen great-grandchildren; her special daughter Astrid Edwards and canine daughter Babe.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at St. Francis Xavier Church at 444 Metairie Rd. Metairie, LA 70005, on March 25, 2021, at 11:00 am. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am. Interment at Greenwood Cemetery at 5190 Canal Blvd. New Orleans, LA 70124.
