Joan was preceded in death by her husband of 24 years, Dr. John T. Janus, also from Biloxi, MS, and her mother, Elinor Anderson, from Jamestown, NY.
She is survived by her father, Captain Burton Anderson from Jamestown, NY; a daughter, Jennifer Janus Lockridge, her husband, Ken Lockridge and their children, Joan's grandsons, Connor, Corey and Cameron all from Loganville, GA; a son, Michael Weston Janus and his wife, Talie Cousins Janus and their children, her granddaughters, Hannah and Sarah all from Biloxi, MS; her sisters, Nancy Belschner and her husband, Austin, from Saugatuck, MI and Barbara Lyons and her husband, Mike, from Jamestown, NY; her brother, David Anderson and his wife, Marie, from Jamestown, NY and numerous nieces and nephews.
During her life, Joan was blessed to have experienced so much. Raised in Jamestown, NY she attended nursing school in Cleveland, OH and later joined the U.S. Navy as a Registered Nurse. As a young Lieutenant, she managed the Pediatric Ward at Bethesda Naval Hospital and it was here, where she met her future husband, a naval officer from Biloxi, MS, named John T. Janus. After marriage in 1962, Joan received an Honorable Discharge from the U.S. Navy and dedicated her life to being a devoted wife and loving mother. While raising her two children, Joan always made sure that each duty assignment quickly became a home. From residences ranging from Newport, RI to Charleston, SC; from Adak, AK to Jacksonville, FL and ultimately, Naples, Italy, Joan succeeded by ensuring that love and support where always present. Following her husband's retirement in 1978, Joan moved to Biloxi, MS, and renewed her passion for nursing by joining Gulf Coast Medical Center where she worked for many years until her retirement in 1999. Afterwards, Joan devoted the majority of her time to being a loving mother and grandmother and stayed involved in numerous groups and activities: most notably, assisting OLF Elementary School in various projects; the Gulf Coast Symphony; the Red Hatters; KAFB Officers' Wives' Club and the Opera Guild.
Joan asks that flowers not be given. As an expression of your appreciation of her life, Joan asks that you make a contribution to Our Lady of Fatima Elementary School, 320 Jim Money Road, Biloxi, MS 39531. This school was very dear to her heart as they not only embraced her granddaughters while they attended, but her as well.
