Joan Mehl Hall, a cherished soul born on May 6, 1936, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, ascended to eternal rest on August 24, 2024, in Ocean Springs, Mississippi. Her journey through life was marked by her profound impact on those who had the privilege of knowing her.
Before embarking on her remarkable journey of motherhood and service to others, Joan served as a flight attendant for Eastern Airlines, where she earned her wings and contributed to the joyful voyages of countless travelers. She later embraced another role within Eastern Airlines, working diligently as a secretary for mechanics, showcasing her versatility and dedication.
Her thirst for knowledge led her to Averett College in Virginia, where she received an associate degree, cementing her belief in the power of education. This foundation nourished her lifelong commitment to service and personal growth.
Joan poured her heart into her passions, one of which was her fervent love for playing bridge—a pursuit she enjoyed until her final moments. She found joy and companionship in the simple elegance of card games, relishing the connections they forged.
Yet, her legacy extends far beyond her professional achievements and hobbies. Joan was a beacon of faith, dedicating over 30 years to a prayer ministry in Atlanta, which illuminated her unwavering spiritual commitment. In an era where many retreat from youth, Joan embraced her role as a Young Life leader with vigor, leading campaigners Bible studies and participating wholeheartedly in Young Life Camp activities at the age of 50, demonstrating her boundless energy and enthusiasm for life.
Joan dedicated her life to loving and serving others, introducing many people to Jesus and faithfully praying for them.
Moreover, she was a founding member of Church of the Apostles in Atlanta, Georgia, where she nourished the spiritual growth of her community and shared her love for Christ with all around her.
In her family, Joan found the greatest joys and sources of pride. She leaves behind her beloved daughters Anne (John) Hall Adams and Tracey (Eric) Hall Graham, who carry forth her indomitable spirit. Her legacy is further enriched by her grandchildren: Lily Taber, Adele Taber, Elizabeth Graham, Luke Graham, Phoebe Graham, Sarah Graham, and Rachel Graham, each a reflection of the love and values she imparted. Joan also cherished her sisters, Susan Mehl and Barbara (Tom) Bailey, whose bonds with her served as pillars of support and love throughout her life. She also leaves behind sister-in-law Lorin Hall, nephews Josh (Meridith) Hall, Matt (Kristen) Hall, Mark (Maribel) Bailey and niece Pam (Steve) Bailey Counter.
Joan was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 61 years, Gene Hall, her parents Virginia and Omar Mehl, and her brother-in-law Don Hall, all of whom now welcome her with open arms in a place of peace.
As we remember Joan, let us celebrate a remarkable woman who embraced life with grace, compassion, and unwavering faith. Her legacy will resonate through the lives she touched, reminding us all to cherish our loved ones, serve our communities, and play a good hand at bridge. She will be tremendously missed, but we rejoice that she is right where she longed to be, in the presence of her Savior Jesus.
Joan will be laid to rest next to her husband, in private family services in Murphy, NC.
