Jimmy Cagle

Jimmy Barto Cagle, 76, of Long Beach passed from this earth on April 5, 2006 at the Biloxi VA Medical Center after a long debilitating illness.
He was born December 15, 1929 in LeFlore County, OK. He graduated from Heavener High School class of 1949 and attended Oklahome A&M and Antelope Valley College in Lancaster, CA. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was initiated into the Masonic Lodge in Altus, OK and was a charter member of Singing River Masonic Lodge, Gautier. He was currently a member of Orange Grove Masonic Lodge #635, the Gulfport Scottish Rite Bodies, and a charter member of Joppa Temple Shrine. Mr. Cagle was a charter member and First Worthy Patron of Singing River Chapter Order of the Eastern Star and now a member of Coast Chapter OES and Harmony Chapter OES.
Jim was an avid fisherman and served as secretary of the Off Shore Fishing Banks Association during its formation. After retiring as an Electronic Oceanographer from the National Marine Fisheries, he was a full time Bee Keeper and served as Past President of the Mississippi Bee Keepers Association and was appointed to serve on the National Honey Board.
His genealogy book, """"Cagle Family in the Southern States"""" was published in 2000. He also authored a book of his adventures during a year spent in the Bahamas.
He met and married his wife of fifty years, Marie Shaw Cagle, while stationed at Keesler Air Force Base. During the first fifteen years of their marriage, Jim was a Field Engineer for Federal Electric Corp. and during this time they had thirty-two addresses being a year in Ottawa, Canada, a year on Andros Island, Mangrove Cay, Lisbon Creek, Bahamas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elzie Roosevent Cagle and Edna Pearl Farnsworth Cagle; brothers, Donald Neal, Cecil Ferrell, and Gene Allyson, a half sister, Gladys Cagle Hill and two nephews, Jimmy Neal Cagle and Russell Hill, Jr.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Cagle; step-son, Joe Michael Shaw, Sr.; two grandsons: Michael Shaw, Jr. and William Christopher Shaw; and a sister Dorothy Gallegly, Pocola, OK.
The funeral service will be 12 noon Friday, April 7, 2006 at Gulf Coast Funeral Home, Three Rivers Rd. Chapel where friends may visit one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in Biloxi National Cemetery. Masonic Rites will be conducted at the graveside service.
