Mr. Jimmie H. Lewis, age 66, resident of Gulfport, died on Tuesday, October 30, 2007, in Gulfport.
Mr. Lewis served his country in the U. S. Navy, where he served two tours of duty in Vietnam. He retired after 21 years as a Sr. Chief. He graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi with a 4.0 GPA. He was a member of Bible Baptist Church in Gulfport and was a sports fan (his favorite being the Atlanta Braves.) He enjoyed fishing and coaching his children, and was always willing to spend time helping kids. He was a very organized person, who loved spending time with family and neighbors. He will be remembered for his loving spirit. At one time he had worked for Mississippi Power and and as a warehouse supervisor for a major appliance company. His pet, JoJo, was his constant companion.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold D. Lewis and Evelyn Ridlin Scroczynski; stepfather, Harold Scroczynski; brothers, Wayne and Donnie Scroczynski; son-in-law, Larry A. Chase; brother-in-law, Glenn A. Summers.
He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Dorris """"Sue"""" Polk Lewis of Gulfport; children, Kenneth Lee Lewis of Mobile, AL and his wife Mary Frances, and Karen Lynn Chase of Chickasaw, AL; sister, Fran Summers of Morrilton, AR; grandhildren, Amanda Christine and Jessica Marie Lewis, and Stephanie Lynn and Larry A. Chase, II; great grandson, Connor A. Chase.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bible Baptist Church, AWANA children's ministry, 12200 Dedeaux Rd., Gulfport, MS 39503.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 1, 2007, at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11213 Highway 49 North, Gulfport, where friends may call from 6-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 2, 2007, at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow at Biloxi National Cemetery.
