Jessie Campbell Jordan, 95, died Wednesday, May 10th at her Latimer home.
Mrs. Jordan was the widow of the late Naif Jordan who passed away in February of 1993.
Born in Elizabeth, N.J. in 1911, Mrs. Jordan had lived most of her life on the coast and met her late husband when they were both in grade school in Biloxi. She was the youngest of 10 children born to Robert and Mary Campbell of Glasgow, Scotland, all preceding her in death.
The Campbell family immigrated to the U.S. around the turn of the Century and spent many years on the coast where Jessie was active in swimming, tennis, basketball, and winning awards for her athletic activities.
In her adult life she was extremely talented in many areas including painting in oil and watercolor, as a gourmet cook who loved to entertain alongside her husband with parties at her home; as a seamstress, a gardner who won awards for her floral arrangements, and an avid golfer who participated in many local tournaments. She did volunteer work at the VA and the Moore Community House. Mrs. Jordan helped found the annual celebration of the Landing of D'Iberville on the beach at Ocean Springs. In earlier years she enjoyed horse back riding at the family farm where the Jordans moved in 1943.
As one of the early founders of the Homemakers Club of Latimer, she took an active role in community activities and helped establish the 4-H Club as well. Mrs. Jordan was active for many years in the Order of the Eastern Star and served as the Worthy Matron of Adah Chapter #49 of Ocean Springs in 1951.
Survivors include her son, Oscar Jordan of Ocean Springs; her daughter, Eleanor Cissy Jordan of Latimer; two grandsons, Robert Jordan and his wife Clarissa of Oxford and James Jordan and his wife Karen; and two great grandchildren, Hayley and Christopher all of Baton Rouge.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 16th at 2:00 p.m. at the St. Paul's Methodist Church on Porter Avenue in Ocean Springs.
