Jerry Wing, at the age of 92, passed away peacefully at his home in Biloxi, MS on May 15, 2022.
Jerry was born in Dayton, KY on September 20, 1929. He grew up in a small town and was a gifted athlete. He was the captain of his high school basketball, football, and baseball teams. He distinguished himself on the gridiron and went to Morehead State Teacher’s College on a football scholarship. After completing school, he taught bookkeeping and accounting at the high school and college level while also serving as a coach. He was invited to try out for the Green Bay Packers, but with a young family, he decided to join the U.S. Air Force.
Jerry served in the Air Force for thirty-one years as a pilot and flight instructor. He was the first U.S. Air Force Reserve C-130 pilot. He retired while stationed in Biloxi as a Lt. Colonel. His interest in athletics continued and he successfully competed in running events and tennis. While in his seventies, he was the state tennis champion in his age group.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Joan Wing; his children, Andy Wing and Melinda Wing and step sons, Mark Brady and Dr. Andrew Van Acker; his seven grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
God has Jerry in his arms, we have him in our hearts.
