Jerry Rimes

January 1, 1947 — October 9, 2018

Jerry Lynn Boyd Rimes passed away peacefully at the age of 71, on October 9, 2018.  She was born on January 1, 1947, in Tylertown, Mississippi to Mollie Jo and Morgan Boyd.  She was a member of the 1965 graduating class of Salem High School.  After graduation, she attended Southwest Community College where she was a cheerleader and served as Homecoming Queen in 1968.  She later received a Master's Degree in Special Education from the University of Southern Mississippi.  On June 6, 1969, she married the love of her life, Dwight, to whom she was happily married for 49 and 1/2 years.
Jerry taught special education and elementary school for twelve years in Biloxi and Ocean Springs.  After she retired from teaching, she obtained her real estate license and served as a real estate agent for approximately thirty years.  She was a member of First Baptist Church in Ocean Springs, Biloxi-Ocean Springs Board of Realtors, and Treasure Oak Country Club.
Jerry's family was her top priority.  She always made sure that meals were prepared and enjoyed together as a family.  Jerry was a devoted wife and mother, but her greatest joy in life was being a grandmother.  Known affectionately as "Momsi", her five grandchildren were the center of her world, and she made each one of them feel as if they were the one and only.  Jerry also served as mother to several animals over the years, including most recently a miniature Maltese named Mackie.  When she wasn't supporting her grandchildren at their numerous activities, she also enjoyed fishing, tennis and having fun with her sister and close friends.
Jerry never met a stranger, she was a kind, generous and loving person who lived her life to the fullest.  She was a treasure and a true blessing who was loved dearly by all who knew her.  She will be forever and greatly missed.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Mollie Jo and Morgan Boyd and her father-in-law, Will Rimes.
Survivors include her loving husband, Dwight; cherished children, Tiffany Rimes Kilpatrick (Jeremy) and Joshua Rimes (Sarah); treasured grandchildren, Saxon Kilpatrick, Saylor Kilpatrick, Canon Kilpatrick, Bennett Rimes, and Lily Chaffin Rimes; siblings, Barbara Boyd Singleton (Buddy), Charles W. Boyd (Jane), and Bruce M. Boyd; mother-in-law, Nell Rimes; and brother-in-law, Curtis Rimes (Kaye).  She also leaves to cherish her memory numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, October 12, 2018, at First Baptist Church in Ocean Springs with visitation for family and friends from 12:00 PM until the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Jerry can be made to MD Anderson Cancer Center at gifts.mdanderson.org.
