Jerry Woodrow Reshew, age 88, passed away Friday, June 23, 2017 in Diamondhead, Mississippi. Jerry was the older of two sons. He and his brother Ernest Matthew Reshew were born to Bella and Louis Reshew in Bronx, New York. Jerry grew up in Manhattan, New York and graduated from NYU with a B.S. in Earth Science and earned a Masters Degree from the Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey, California in 1978. He served 4 years in the Air Force from 1947 to 1951; during that time he participated in the Berlin Air Lift.
After the Air Force, Jerry worked for the government for 33 years achieving a rank of GS-15. Jerry met his wife of 67 years, Charlotte Louise Reshew shortly after starting his career with the government.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte Louise Reshew and his son, Benjamin Ernest Reshew.
Jerry is survived by his son, Theodore Louis Reshew (51); and his brother, Ernest Matthew Reshew (83).
Jerry was responsible for moving the Naval Oceanography Command to the Stennis Space Center in 1978 which included 1000 civilian, military, and contactor personnel. After retiring from the government, Jerry became a VP with MAR Inc. He grew the Mississippi office to 65 people.
Jerry was very active during his 88 years. His hobbies included boxing, tournament pistol shooting, flying, sailing, and small scale live steam locomotives. In 1993 he created the Diamondhead International Small Scale Steam Up. This convention became the largest of its kind in the world, having up to 13 countries represented.
Jerry was a leader in his career as well as his personal life. He was the Rabbi for the reformed Jewish congregation in Diamondhead. Jerry was a 32 degree Free Mason and was the president of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Chapter of Mensa. He was the King of the Diamondhead Mardi Gras parade.
Jerry spent his life challenging himself to become the best person he could be. He once said that you should focus on how positively you can touch the people in your sphere of influence. Jerry has succeeded in doing just that.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 9, 2017 at Diamondhead Country Club.
