Jerry Lee DeLaughter, 78, of Biloxi, Mississippi, passed away on September 13, 2023. He was a man of intense passion and ambition.
Jerry was born on October 24, 1944, in Brookhaven, Mississippi, to Hardy Louis Delaughter and Eloise Hayes Delaughter.
Jerry first graduated from the University of Mississippi with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Afterward, he served in the United States Air Force and achieved the rank of Captain before receiving an honorable discharge.
He then returned to the University of Mississippi and graduated a second time with a Juris Doctor degree. Professionally, Jerry was licensed to practice law in Mississippi and California, and during his life, he maintained an active practice in both states.
Additionally, Jerry was a licensed minister in the United Pentecostal Church, regularly teaching and sharing what he had learned. Between teaching lessons, he was a dutiful student of the Bible, thoroughly highlighting and annotating scriptures and reference books.
Family was of great importance to Jerry, and he ensured that he always expressed love to them so that they knew how much they meant to him. He treasured having been nicknamed “Olly Pop” by his first grandson.
Jerry was preceded by his parents, Hardy and Eloise; brother, Harold Delaughter; sister, Patsy Rutland; and brother, Louis (“Buddy”) Delaughter.
He is survived by his wife, Linda DeLaughter; son, Hardy DeLaughter (wife, Lauren); daughter, Sarah Mills (husband, Micah); and brother, Bruce Delaughter (wife, Becky). He is also survived by his grandson, Lyndon Mills, and very-soon-to-be grandson, Elliot Mills.
A funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. (Central Time) on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at Pentecostals of the Gulf Coast, 1907 Popps Ferry Road, Biloxi, Mississippi 39532. Family are invited to gather beginning at 2:00 p.m., and all other guests are invited to join beginning at 3:00 p.m.
Interment will be private at Biloxi National Cemetery.
