Jerald Caruthers

Dr. Jerald Wayne Caruthers, of Long Beach Ms. June 19, 1938 - June 27, 2022. Age 84.025.

Dr. Caruthers was predeceased by his loving wife and mother of his children, Patricia Caruthers (2002).

He leaves behind his memory to live on in his five children and spouses, Curtis Caruthers (Shelia), Rhonda Reilly, Julie Paul (Bob), Matthew Caruthers (Bianca), and Samantha Pellegrino (Mike). 15 Grand Children, Jessica, Bryan, Chelsea, Kim, Brandon, Micheal, Tyler, Zachary, Caleb, Madison, Olivia, Emerson, Tallis, Riley, Asher and 5.5 Great Grand Children, Addison, Ashton, Lennox, Beckett, Maverick Wayne, and baby on the way.

Jerald’s professional life was one of great accomplishments. He was a PHD’d physicist (Texas A&M), an Oceanographer (specializing in Underwater Acoustics), Research Physicist (C.I.A.), Peer reviewed author (Fundamentals of Marine Acoustics and 101 other publications), Professor (Texas A&M and Univ of South Mississippi) and a recipient of the Central Intelligence Agency’s Intelligence Medal of Merit for his breakthrough research relating to a foreign power’s military activity during the Cold war (declassified 25 years later). In his retirement he continued his work as author of scientific papers, peer reviewer and genealogist. His brilliant mind and intelligence was cut way too short by the ravages of Lewy Bodies Dementia. He will be laid to rest next to his wife Patti to spend eternity together.

Visitation will be at Riemann Family Funeral Home. 19130 Commission Rd. Long Beach, MS, July 9th, from 9:30am -10:30am followed by a graveside memorial at the Live Oak Cemetery 125 Church Avenue, Pass Christian (behind Trinity Episcopal Church). He will be forever missed by his loving family and the people who knew him.
