Jenell Holland, age 63 and a resident of Gulfport, died Tuesday, February 23, 2010, in Gulfport.
Mrs. Holland was born in Itta Bena, MS. She received her Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and her Master's Degree in Reading from Delta State University. She taught 35 years, primarily in Mississippi public schools. Several of her favorite years of teaching were spent with special education children.
Mrs. Holland was a member of New Hope Baptist Church, MS Association of Educators, MS Reading Association, International Reading Association, and Gideon Auxiliary. She was selected Teacher of the Month several times, served as spelling bee supervisor, Sunday school teacher, Special Olympics sponsor, cheerleader sponsor, and was considered a principal's dream.
Mrs. Holland was preceded in death by her parents, Lorene Vail Aust and George Franklin Aust; and father-in-law, H. O. Holland, Sr.
Survivors include her husband of 41 years, Kenny Holland; daughters, Tracey Lajoie and husband, Jim, of Ft. Benning, GA; and Robin Holland, of Gulfport; son, Ken Holland and wife, Leslie, of Lucedale; grandchildren, Alyssa Holland and Ethan Holland; step-granddaughter, Ashley Lajoie; mother-in-law, Lora Holland, of Mason, MS; brother-in-law, H. O. Holland, Jr., and Linda Holland; brothers, Curtis Aust and wife, Mamie; Stanley Aust, all of Itta Bena; and Sidney Aust and wife, Janice, of Greenwood, MS; sisters, Pauline Hanegan and husband, Michael, of Carrolton, GA; and Maydean Goss and husband, Wilbur, of Greenwood, MS; eight nieces and five nephews.
The family prefers memorial donations to MS Special Olympics, 15 Olympic Way, Madison, MS 39110.
Visitation will be at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport, on Saturday, February 27, 2010, from 5 until 7 p.m. The funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m.on Sunday, February 28, in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery at Lucedale.
