Jeanne Conrad Shepard, 79, of Diamondhead, Mississippi died Sunday, August 26, 2007 at home. The cause was ovarian cancer. Born in New Orleans, Louisiana on May 28, 1928, she was the daughter of Carl Adrian Conrad, attorney and Judge of Recorder Court, and Alice Fossier Conrad. She attended Holy Name of Mary Elementary School, and was Valedictorian of her class at Martin Behrman High School, both in Algiers. During her college years at Louisiana State University, she was active in many organizations including the Newman Club and the Alpha Xi Delta Sorority. Among many college honors, she was elected to Mortar Board, Phi Kappa Phi, and WhoaÌââ¢s Who in American Colleges. She received her BacheloraÌââ¢s of Science in Accounting in 1949 from LSU, and a Masters of Science in Social Work from the University of Texas at Arlington in 1978.
After marrying in 1950, Jeanne and her husband, Tom lived in Dallas, Texas. She was a certified Montessori teacher at Meadowbrook School from 1978 until her retirement in 1984. She was Chair of WomenaÌââ¢s Retreats for the Dallas Deanery, and Program Chair of the WomenaÌââ¢s Club at St. Monica Parish for many years. She was a ChaplainaÌââ¢s assistant at VeteranaÌââ¢s Hospital. For the Corinthian Sailing Club at White Rock Lake, she served as Treasurer. She was dedicated to the cause of peace and justice, and was President of the Peace and Justice Committee at St Rita Parish. She was also was a member of Pax Christi, Dallas Peace Center, and numerous peace organizations.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas W. Shepard, Jr., retired of LTV Corporation; and daughter, Eileen Shepard Townsend, of Wexford, Pennsylvania; sons, Thomas Shepard of Houston, Texas; Carl Shepard of Dublin, Ireland; Robert Shepard of Evergreen, Colorado; her brother, Robert J. Conrad of New Orleans, Louisiana, and eight grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother, Carl Conrad.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, September 1, 2007, at St Rose De Lima Catholic Church, 301 S. Necaise Ave, Bay St Louis, Mississippi.
