Jeanelle Sumrall Meadows, age 77, passed away on December 19, 2018. She was born in Laurel, MS on April 5, 1941.
She was preceded in death by her parents, C. E. and Lois (Byrd) Sumrall of Sumrall, MS; and her beloved mother in law, Lutisha Andrews from Carrollton, KY.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, William Meadows; her son, C.V. Meadows (Angela); her grandson, Cody Meadows; step-grandchildren, Caley Grimstead, Austin Grimstead (Shelby); her identical twin sister, Jeanette Smith (Jim) of Atlanta, GA; her older sister, Betty Round from Mobile, AL; many nieces and nephews; special family members, Michael and Michelle Johnson and their daughter, Harmonee from Arkansas; her best friend of over 50 years, Barbara Hannah; special neighbors she considered family, Sandy and Lloyd Hulsey;and many former beloved students, especially her favorite student, Troy Peterson.
Jeanelle was a member of Mensa and education was very important to her. She was a graduate from Glade High School, Jones County Jr College and went on to receive her Bachelor and Master's Degrees in Education from University of Southern Mississippi. She loved to travel and music was always an important part of her life as she and her twin sister were members of the Glade Girls Ensemble. She also participated in the Laurel Community Choir, USM Choir and a former member of Coalville United Methodist Church and Trinity United Methodist Church Choir.
She previously worked at Harrison County Department of Human Services and was a licensed real estate agent before she started her teaching career. She taught Business Education and English at Long Beach, Biloxi, St. Martin, St. John High School, and Harrison County School System and was known as "Mama Meadows" to many of her students who she loved dearly. She taught at KAFB, Phillips College, City College of Chicago (in Crete, Greece). She retired after 33 years.
Jeanelle's wishes were to be cremated and laid to rest at Coalville Cemetery in Woolmarket, MS, and to have no memorial service, but instead for family and friends to spend quality time with their loved ones.
