Jean Shaw Lott

December 1, 1934 — December 24, 2020

Gulfport

Jean Kendall Shaw Lott, Beloved Daughter, Wife, Mother and Teacher was called home peacefully in the early morning hours of Christmas Eve, December 24, 2020 in Gulfport, Mississippi.

Jean was born to the late Col. Dean Kendall Givan and Marguerite Cadenhead Givan of Carthage, Mississippi. They soon moved to Meridian, Mississippi where she was raised until after graduating from Meridian High School. She attended college at the University of Southern Mississippi. Later she obtained her Masters of Education from William Carey College.

Predeceased by both her parents and her two husbands, Esdell P. Shaw, Sr., father of
their beloved sons, and later to her loving husband of the last twenty-two years,
Russell A. Lott of Lyman, Mississippi. Jean was also preceded in death recently by her youngest son, Brian Shaw of Long Beach, Mississippi.

Jean is survived by and lovingly remembered by her oldest son, Esdell P. Shaw and wife, Gail of Pensacola, Florida and a large and growing extended family:
Step Children; Janet Lott McKinion and husband Ken of Madison, Mississippi;
Susan Lott Knox and husband Richard of Meridian, Mississippi.
Four step grandchildren: Laura McKinion, Flowood, Mississippi; Caitlin McKinion (Evan) Rios, Dallas, Texas, Brian Knox (Sara Wray) of Louisville, Mississippi and Daniel Knox (Sara Fitzgerald) of Collinsville, Mississippi, and three adorable step- Great Grandchildren, Lila, Cora and Mollie.

She enjoyed many loving Swan Lake and Long Beach neighbors, old friends from her teaching career and her church family at First Baptist Church of Lyman.

Jean enjoyed her two careers: raising a family and a teaching children.
She taught 3rd and 4th grade for 34 years at Quarles Elementary School before retiring. She kept many of her children’s cards and drawings over the years.

On the home front Jean was busy in the kitchen, they had two growing “football playing sons” in the house (plus their Dad) always some one asking “What’s for dinner?” She was also at every game her boys played and was always their #1 Fan, from grade school through college. Such dedication her sons always cherished.

Thankfully, Jean had learned to cook from her mother, Marguerite Givan, and cook she did. After Jean and Russell married and she had a larger family on weekends, holidays, church socials or neighbors she was always in the kitchen, and many times with good kitchen assistance from Russell. They always enjoyed having company.

Jean and Russell were long time members of First Baptist Church of Lyman. Together they spent most weeks in worship, fellowship or with family. They both loved the time they spent with their “Young at Heart” group celebrating anything from birthdays, Valentines, anniversaries, potluck dinners or traveling America’s scenic roads and towns on their Chartered Bus Tours. They had a grand time.
Together they travelled our National Parks and probably every state in between.
However every year the Smokey Mountains called them to come view the splendor for the “Fall Colors” and the apple harvest. Jean seemed at her happiest when traveling with her driver, and sweetheart. The photo albums are full of big smiles.

The family would like to extend their deep gratitude to the loving and caring staff
of The Green House at Seashore Highlands, Gulfport, and the Hospice team of
Southern Care, Biloxi. Thank you for the excellent care Jean always received.
We are most thankful to each for you.
