Mrs. Jean Carol Avara Luke, age 75, resident of Gulfport, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 17, 2011.
Mrs. Luke was born in Meridian, MS to B.C. and Ruby Thomas Avara. She was a graduate from the MS Baptist Godfrey School of Nursing in Jackson. After marrying Raymond D. Luke, Sr., also from Meridian, they moved to the Mississippi Gulf Coast where they raised their son. She was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star and was a member of First Baptist Church of Lizana where she was very active.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Raymond D. Luke, Sr.; two infant children; and a brother and sister.
She is survived by her son, Raymond D. Luke, Jr. (Peggy) of Lizana; sister, Shirley Massey (Lavelle) of Meridian; her grandchildren and great grandchildren; and a niece and nephew.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 20, 2011, at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport, where friends may visit from 10-11 am.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel.
Burial will follow at Standard Sandhill Cemetery.
