Jean Adell Maggard Leggett, age 79, passed away Monday, July 12, 2021. Jean was born April 5, 1942, in Meridian, MS and was a lifelong resident of the Mississippi Gulf Coast. She was a Harrison Central graduate and former beauty queen, as well as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. As member of New Hope Baptist Church, she looked forward to worshipping with her church family. As an Avon consultant for over forty years, Jean made friends wherever she went. An avid bingo player and DIYer, Jean was creative, enjoyed baking, and was an amazing cook. She loved her family dearly and relished her time with her children, grandchildren, and siblings. Jean was sassy, witty, and outspoken; you always knew what she was thinking.
Jean is preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Larry Leggett; her daughter Lorie Courtney; her grandson James Weinbrandt; her parents Eugene and Opal Maggard and her brother Kenny Maggard. She is survived by her children, Ginger Walker of Gulfport, MS, Travis (Carol) Leggett of Saucier, MS, Julie (Tommy) Duncan of Gulfport, MS, Krystal Wallace of Gulfport, MS, and Amy (Joel) Caldwell of Bay St. Louis, MS; sister Lynn Sekul; brother Roger (Gwen) Maggard; 17 grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren with another on the way.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, July 17, 2021, at New Hope Baptist Church, 17430 Landon Road, Gulfport, MS. The family will receive visitors at 1:00 PM and the religious service will begin at 2:00 PM.
