Jean Ladner went to her heavenly home on Saturday, April 29, 2023, in Gulfport at the age of 92.
Jean was born on March 22, 1931, in the White Sand community outside of Poplarville, Mississippi to Marvin and Mabel Tynes. She was a loving sister to four younger brothers and was a 1949 graduate of Pearl River. After earning a B.S. in Education from Mississippi Southern College (now the University of Southern Mississippi), Jean moved to Long Beach to begin her career where she taught 3rd grade in the Long Beach School District for 14 years.
Soon after moving to Long Beach, Jean met and married her husband of 52 years, Al Ladner. Jean left her teaching career to raise their two cherished daughters, Kim and Pam, before returning to work as manager of the USM Gulf Park Bookstore until her retirement in 2001.
Her work ethic and character allowed her to excel in each role she held, although Jean’s favorite was that of a proud and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
Jean’s Christian faith was an essential part of her life. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Long Beach where she taught 3rd grade Sunday School for over 30 years before joining a class with her husband and many lifelong friends. Jean’s display of the Fruits of the Spirit was evident in all areas of her life, as was her generosity, selflessness, and integrity.
Her living example and loving spirit will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Albert James Ladner; her parents, Marvin V. Tynes and Mabel Mitchell Tynes; and her brother, Larry Tynes.
Jean is survived by her daughters Kim (James) Previto and Pam (Davey) Spieles; her grandchildren, Nick DeMetz and Katie (Alex) DeMetz Coats; her siblings, Donald Tynes, Doyle Tynes, and Charles Tynes; and numerous nieces, nephews, in-law’s, and other loving family members and friends.
Friends are invited to join the Ladner family for visitation from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and funeral services at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 4, 2023 at First Baptist Church of Long Beach located at 300 North Cleveland Avenue, Long Beach, MS 39560. Burial will follow at the Biloxi National Cemetery at 1:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her honor to First Baptist Church of Long Beach at www.fbclb.com/give.
