Jean Halterlein

d. August 10, 2021

Long Beach

Heaven has welcomed another angel home.  Mrs. Bernie “Jean” Halterlein left this earth on Tuesday, August 10, at her home with family by her side.

Jean was born and raised in Hancock County, MS and graduated high school at St. Joseph in Pass Christian, MS.  She then earned her Nursing Degree at Hotel Dieu School of Nursing in New Orleans, LA after receiving a full scholarship.

She married her one true love, Lt. Vincent Paul Halterlein of Pittsburg, PA in 1960.  They were married at Infant of Prague Church in White Cypress, MS.  They moved together to Marysville, CA where Vince was stationed at Beale AFB.  They then moved to Pittsburg, PA where Jean lived until the death of her husband in 1972.  She moved back home to the MS Gulf Coast where she lived among friends and family for the rest of her life.  Jean was an enthusiastic volunteer at Garden Park Hospital in Gulfport and the Long Beach MS Food Pantry. Before her illness, she was an active member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Long Beach, MS.  She enjoyed her weekly Rosary devotion at the church.

Jean loved animals and she spent many hours in her home garden.  She traveled to several countries with her children and enjoyed many adventures to other states with friends and family.  Of all her experiences and joys, her most gratifying and treasured work was raising her children and enjoying her grandchildren.  Now through God’s great mercy and grace, she is reunited with her most loving husband, Major Vincent P Halterlein.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Velman and Eveline Hoda of White Cypress, MS; and her brother, VJ Hoda of Petal, MS.

Jean is survived by her children, Christopher  Halterlein,( Elvira)  of Perkinston, MS, Maria Mitchell (Larry) of Cheyenne, WY, Vincent Halterlein (Rhonda) of Pass Christian, Theresa Jackson (Kenny) of Hancock County, MS, and Evelyn Tyler (Bob) of Ormond Beach, FL; and her grandchildren, Brandon Halterlein of Pass Christian, Sarah Jackson of PA, Nathaniel Halterlein of Wiggins, MS, Madelynn Halterlein of Vancleave, MS John Mitchell of Cheyenne, WY, Mary Grace Mitchell of Cheyenne, WY and Robert Tyler III of Ormond Beach, FL.
