Jarvis "Hobo" James Cuevas

Jarvis "Hobo" James Cuevas, 82, passed away peacefully at his daughter’s home, surrounded by his loving family, on March 14, 2025. Born on November 11, 1942, in Harrison County, Mississippi, to Provis Cuevas and Belena Ladner Cuevas. He was a cherished husband, father, grandpa, and mentor to his family, extended family, and friends.

Jarvis worked as a production manager and supervisor in the construction industry for many years. Jarvis was a mentor to many in his field. He enjoyed being a member of the Lizana VFD, Jaycees, and his community involvement as a baseball coach. Jarvis was always outside doing mechanic work on lawnmowers and vehicles for his family and community. He spent most of his free time being a groundskeeper for the Brennan family. Jarvis loved listening to politics on TV and had a love for old music. He had a special craft of building fish nets. Jarvis devoted most of his time being a caretaker for his loving and demanding wife, which he never complained about. He found joy in country living and embraced the great outdoors, indulging in activities such as shrimping, fishing, hunting, camping, playing high-nine, spending time on the river, watching his great grandkids play sports, spending time with family and friends, and his most recent obsession, going to the casino. His boundless love, care, and mentor skills will be deeply missed.

Jarvis is preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Merle Dean Cuevas, parents, Provis Cuevas and Belena Ladner Cuevas; daughter-in-law, Regina Cuevas; and siblings, Helena Cuevas Babin (Floyd Sr.), Purvey Cuevas (Barbara), and Preston Cuevas (Judy).

He is survived by his cherished children, Jeffrey Cuevas (Sidney), Cheryl Ladner (Tony), Tracy Cuevas (Dena), Travis Cuevas (Stephanie), Terri Cuevas, and Eva Gay McKay (Coy); grandchildren, Tara Lizana (Clint), Desmond Cuevas (Brittney), Tyler Berry, Kenric Ladner (Stephanie), Derric Ladner (Shanee), Eric Ladner (Jessica), Brandon Cuevas (Dan), Breanna Cuevas (Kent), Joey Cuevas (Laura), Theresa Crawford (Matt), Shelley Pavolini (Desmond), Tasha Cuevas, Brett McKay (Patricia), and Kristie Necaise (Kurt); 30 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild; goddaughters, Pauline Necaise Blackwell, Ernestine Peterson. Additionally, he is survived by his brothers, Bernell Cuevas, Prentiss Cuevas (Deborah), and Darcy Cuevas (Kathy). Jarvis also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends who will dearly miss him and his mentor and training skills.

The family would like to extend our sincere gratitude and love to his nurse Brittney Cuevas (his granddaughter-in-law) for her true dedication, love, and care for their precious Daddy and Papa. A special thank you to Gentiva Hospice nurses Jackie and Ramona.
