Jannie McClendon Reed, age 77 of Gulfport, passed away on Thursday, August 16, 2018.
Jannie was born on April 3, 1941, in Columbia, MS, to J.C. and Gencie McClendon. She attended 33 rd School until she had to help provide for her siblings. She married Ernest Reed, Sr. on December 3, 1961, and together they raised eight children.
In 1993, she became a dedicated, baptized Jehovah's Witness. For 25 years, she shared Bible truths with her family, neighbors, and anyone she encountered. She was known by everyone as a very sweet, humble, and generous woman. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who will be missed by all who knew her.
Jannie was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Frank McClendon, Delbert McClendon, and Eric McClendon; three sisters, Lula McClendon, Julia McClendon, and Brenda Darden; and a son, Perry Reed.
She is survived by her husband, Ernest Reed, Sr.; children, Gary Reed (Shelia), of Madison, MS, Derrick Reed, Sr., Melanie Reed, Tanya Reed, Ernest Reed, Jr., Tara Riley (Shedrick), and Kathy Warnsley (Bobby), all of Gulfport, MS; grandchildren, LaKendra Ewing, of Antioch, CA, Ebony Reed, and Derrick Reed, Jr., of Gulfport, MS; two brothers, John "J.W." McClendon, of Houston, TX, and Norman McClendon, of Gulfport, MS; three sisters, Annie Jones and Patricia Mack, of Gulfport, MS, and Shelia Gill, of Wiggins, MS; and a host of relatives and friends.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, August 21, 2018, at Lyman Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 14469 Old Highway 49, Lyman, MS 39503. Burial will follow at Monroe Memorial Park.
