Janna Leigh Jones, age 63, of Ocean Springs, Mississippi went to be with the Lord on June 14, 2022. Her sudden passing has broken our hearts, yet the memory of her remarkable life will always be a blessing to all who knew her.
Miss Jones was born in Pensacola, Florida on April 27, 1959, and lived most of her adult life and attended church in Gulfport. She escaped Hurricane Katrina’s wrath (she lived two blocks from the beach) and she loved, loved, loved crawfish!
Janna was preceded in death by grandparents James & Ruby Duncan, and her adoptive mother Christine (Duncan) Jones.
She is survived by her son Matthew Zdenek, her parents Thomas and Loraine Jones, siblings Judy Smith (Fleet), Randy Jones (Marie), Terri Tomlinson (Mike) and Karen Vann (Brent) and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
She graduated from high school at The Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind in Talladega, Alabama and thereafter attended Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C. .
Janna’s love and her character will live on through the many children that she provided care for in the Gulfport area. She devoted her life to serving God and loving others and she had a huge place in her heart for her cats, Realynn and Winston.
The family asks that memorials be made in Janna’s name to the de l’Epee Deaf Center, 1450 North Street in Gulfport, Mississippi 39507 (www.deafcenter.org) or to the Humane Society of South MS, 2615 Hwy 49, Gulfport, MS 39501.
There will be a celebration of Janna’s life on Saturday, July 2 at 10:00 AM at Harvest Church (15523 Landon Road, Gulfport) followed by interment at Finley Cemetery (Finley Cemetery Road, Gulfport).
