Janice Marie Phelps

December 24, 1956 — October 1, 2024

Janice Marie Phelps, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, peacefully passed away on October 1, 2024, in Pascagoula, Mississippi, at the age of 67. Born in Wiggins, MS on Christmas Eve, on December 24, 1956. Janice lived most of her life on the Gulf Coast of MS, and lived a life rich with love, laughter, and an unwavering spirit.

Janice was proud of her time with WGCM Radio Station, where she was affectionately known as one of the 'Country Girls'. Her infectious enthusiasm and passion for music brought joy to many, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those who listened.

Despite the challenges she faced, particularly her diagnosis of Stage 3 lung cancer in 2013, Janice displayed extraordinary resilience and determination. Surpassing expectations, she fought bravely for many years, embodying the strength that defined her life.

Above all, Janice cherished her family. She took immense pride in her role as a mother to her son, Henry W. Phelps Jr., and her daughter, Nina M. (Brandon) Phelps Kilgo. Her legacy is further carried by her grandchildren, Nicholas Phelps, Sarabeth Phelps Isaacs, Victoria Phelps Davis, Liana Kilgo, Logan Kilgo, and Levi Kilgo, along with her great-grandchildren, Eliza Phelps, Thomas Isaacs, Clyde Isaacs, Healy Davis, Heath Davis, and Regina Davis. These cherished moments spent with her descendants were the highlights of her life, and she felt profoundly blessed to witness their growth. She is also survived by her loving sister, Ellen D. (Jack) Davis.

Janice now joins the embrace of those who have gone before her, including her high school sweetheart and beloved husband of 51 years Henry W. Phelps Sr., her parents Thomas E. and Claudia M. (nee Morrison) Landrum, her brother Thomas B. Landrum, and her sister Lucinda A. Reid.

Janice Marie Phelps leaves behind a legacy of love, reminding us of all of the beauty of family bonds at the extraordinary strength of the human spirit.

The community will gather to honor Janice’s remarkable life at a graveside service on October 12, 2024, at Finley Cemetery in Gulfport, Mississippi. Services will begin at 2:00.

We as her family and friends are confident that she was met on that beautiful shore by Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, along with our loved ones who have passed on from this life.

This is definitely not a 'Good-bye' but one glorious 'See you in a little bit!'
