Janice Anne Barton of 2231 Sweet Bay Cove of Biloxi, Mississippi passed away peacefully on September 25, 2022, at home with her loving husband and their dogs, Bear and Dixie by her side. She was born in Derby, Connecticut on Nov. 9,1952 to Mr. And Mrs William and Mary Blewett of Ansonia. Janice was the oldest of four siblings. A brother Bill Blewett and two sisters, Nancy Blewett and Karen Black (husband Tracy). She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Ansonia.
When she was young, she lived next door to her grandmother who taught her how to Knit at a young age. She continued to knit throughout her entire life. She started the Biloxi knitting group at the library. (Margaret S Sherry Memorial Library). Janice also played the piano and guitar. She started taking lessons as a child and picking it up again when she had time as an adult.
Janice graduated from Ansonia High School in 1970 and the Stone School of Business in New Haven, CT. She studied at the University of Maryland University college (Class of 1999) and Studied at the University of South Carolina Columbia (Class of 1986). Janice joined the US Air Force at age 25 and traveled all over the United States and the world. She was stationed in South Korea, England and traveled to France where she researched her uncle’s service and sacrifice in WWII. Janice's last assignment as a First Sergeant was at Keesler AFB in Biloxi, Mississippi. After 23 years of service, Janice retired from the Military and decided to settle in Biloxi; A place that had grown near and dear to her heart.
After having retired from the Military, Janice worked for the Imperial Palace Casino and Riemann's Funeral Home until her retirement. In 2011 Cindy Shanks, of Saucier invited Janice to become a member of the Moose. Janice became very active in the Moose Lodge, from that point she hit the door running and was a wonderful friend/sister. Janice did an amazing job creating the Newsletter for the D'iberville Moose Lodge #332. She was also active in raising money for the children at Mooseheart and the Seniors at Moosehaven.
Through her dear friend Cindy Shanks, Janice met her true love, Cindy's cousin Hewitt Barton, of Biloxi Mississippi. Janice and Hewitt married in 2018 and enjoyed many activities, such as traveling, attending the Moose lodge and visiting their families, and friends in Biloxi and surrounding area.
Janice is also survived by her loving nieces, Erica Hall of Florida and Micaela Ortiz of Idaho; her parents, William and Mary Blewett; her brother, Bill Blewett; and two sisters, Nancy Blewett of Georgia, and Karen Black (husband Tracy Black) who live in Texas.
On Janice’ husband (Hewitt Barton) side of the family She will surely be missed by her brother and sister-in-law of Saucier (William and Deborah Barton), Kristina (daughter of William and Deborah), and Ronald Cuevas (Kristina’s husband) and their two daughters Raven and Britney, who live in Saucier, Mississippi.
The family would like to thank Southern Care Hospice, Dr. (Maj) George Shahin, and the staff at Keesler AFB Oncology unit for their kindness, care, and compassion.
Friends are invited to join Jan's family for visitation and services on Monday, October 3, 2022. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 12 Noon at Riemann Family Funeral Home, 274 Beauvoir Road, Biloxi, MS 39531. The funeral procession will depart at 12:05 p.m. going to Biloxi National Cemetery, where a Graveside Service will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. by Deacon Dick Henderson and honors rendered by the honor guard from Keesler Air Force Base. There will also be a Celebration of Life Service at D'iberville Moose Lodge 2pm-4pm on Monday October 3. after the funeral.
