Long Beach

Jane Lewis Blanton, a dedicated educator, passed away on December 27, 2024. She leaves behind a legacy that will not be forgotten, having shaped the minds and hearts of countless students during her 34 years at Pass Christian Elementary School, from 1976 to 2010.

Jane's academic journey began earnestly, graduating from Gulfport High School in the class of 1972. She continued her pursuit of knowledge at the University of Southern Mississippi, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Education in 1976. Throughout her career, Jane was known not just for her expertise in teaching, but for her passion for her students. Her commitment to education earned her several accolades, including being named "Most Inspirational Teacher" and "Teacher of the Year." Her academic excellence was further evidenced by her membership in Phi Theta Kappa and the National Honor Society of Junior College, as well as her accomplishments on both the Dean's and President's Lists during her college years.

Beyond her love for teaching, Jane had a soft spot for her three beloved show Samoyeds: Camellia, Boss, and Beignets. These furry companions brought her immense joy and enriched her life in countless ways.

Jane was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 49 years, Marvin "Handlebar Henry" Blanton; her sister, Alice; her mother, Edith Woodward Lewis; and her father, Windell Lewis.
