James Lee Whitfield, known to family and friends as “Jimmy”, passed away in Gulfport, MS on July 27, 2024, at the age of 79 years old.

Jimmy was born in Columbia, MS., to his parents John A. and Letha R. Whitfield who have preceded him in death. He is also preceded in death by his brothers John P Whitfield and Thomas C. Whitfield both of Long Beach.

He is survived by his son, James (Peanut) Devad-Ming; his brother, Larry Whitfield and his wife Donna of Ocean Springs, his sister-in law, Patsy Whitfield of Long Beach; nieces, Natalie Whitfield Schmidt (Perry) of Long Beach, Sherilyn Whitfield Oakes (Barry) of Gulfport; and nephews, Randy Whitfield of Long Beach, John Whitfield (Carla), and Jimmy Whitfield of Columbia, Chuck Whitfield (Marcy) of Hanahan, SC., and Clint Whitfield of Lynn Haven, FL., along with a host of other relatives and dear friends.

His hobbies were spending time with his son Peanut, Go-Kart Racing, and The Green Bay Packers.

Jimmy always enjoyed the simple life. He loved his time spent as an over the road truck driver. He spent all his spare time raising his son Peanut and getting him involved in competition Go Kart Racing. His love for peanut was unquestionable from the moment he was born. Jimmy was a very generous and loving soul and was loved by all who knew him.

The family would like to give special thanks to Pass Christian Rehab for all the care and support given him over the past few years.
