James Julius Strayham

James Julius Strayham, Sr., passed away Monday, February 13, 2012 at Memorial Hospital in Gulfport from cancer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William P. Strayham, Sr. and Nicolena Radich Strayham.
James graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1955. He was a graduate of Perkinston Jr. College in 1958. He attended the University of Southern Mississippi for two years.
He served in the MS National Guard 5 ½ years in the 115 AAA Gun Battalion. He also served in the U.S. Army for 3 years with 17 months at Wheelus AFB in Libya with the 64th Engineer Topographic Battalion. He was a life member of the D.A.V., and a 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service. He was a skilled carpenter and farmer. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was an avid fan for the New Orleans Saints.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Barbara Parker Strayham. He has two children, a son, James Strayham, Jr. (Cathy); and a daughter, Karen Strayham Krohn (Rocky); five grandchildren, Kyle Strayham (Jaime), Karlee Krohn, Jody Krohn (Ashley), Brandie Himel (Walt), and Mandie Jarvis (Keith); six great grandchildren, Lily Belle Strayham, Allyssa and Shane Krohn, Austin and Kelsay Himel, and Christian Jarvis; and two brothers, William P. Strayham, Jr. and Gerald G. Strayham.
Friends are invited to a visitation with the family from twelve noon until one o'clock, the 16th of February, 2012 at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport. The funeral service will immediately follow in the funeral home chapel at one o'clock. Interment will follow with United States Military Honors at Biloxi National Cemetery.
