Mr. James Paul Sparks, born December 18, 1924 to the late Charles and Mayme Sparks in Denver, CO, died on Wednesday, February 25, 2009, in Gulfport.
Mr. Sparks enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard in July, 1942 prior to graduating from Corona High School in Southern California. Serving as an Assault Boat Coxswain, he participated in operations in the Marshall and Gilbert Islands. After WWII he embarked on a 42 year career in the aerospace industry as a propulsion engineer and consultant.
He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Robin Sparks.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Janis Sparks of Gulfport; daughter, Wendy Buckles (Phillip) of Enid, OK; sons, Charles Sparks of Los Angeles, CA, and Michael Sparks (Jenny) of Everett, WA; grandchildren, Seth and Matt Buckles of Enid, OK, Shaun McMullan (Lani) of Woodbridge, VA, and Cameron and Freeman Sparks of Everett, WA.
Celebration of Life services will be held on Friday, February 27, 2009, at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport at 3 p.m. Visitation will be held two hours prior to services. Burial will be at a later date at Biloxi National Cemetery.
