Mr. James Michael Smith, age 97, of Gulfport, died on Tuesday, February 10, 2009, at his home.
Mr. Smith was born September 30, 1911, in Columbia, MS, and was a resident of Lyman for 71 years. He was a member of the Senior Adult Sunday School class at Gateway United Methodist Church.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his wife, Grace R. Smith; grandson, Kirby D. Smith, II; daughter-in-law, Virginia Albritton Smith; parents, John Pilgrim and Mary James Smith; brother, J.P. Mazwell Smith; and his sister, Easter Dennis.
He worked at Ingalls Shipyard, the U.S. Fish Hatchery, and retired from the MS State Fish Hatchery.
Mr. Smith is survived by his sons, Mickey G. Smith of Rock Hill, SC, and Kirby D. Smith of Gulfport; grandson, Timothy Scott Smith of Overland Park, KS; great grandchildren, Timothy Scott Smith, II and Ashton Grace Smith of Overland Park, KS; brothers, Paul B. Smith of Gautier, and Jack D. Smith of Moss Point; sisters, India Clark of Pascagoula, and Rosa Mae Whatley of Pensacola; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 1 until 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 14, 2009, at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11213 Highway 49 North, with services following at 2 p.m. Rev. Doug Reid, brother-in-law and pastor of Grace Chapel Church in Gulfport, will conduct the service. The burial will follow in Evergreen Gardens, Gulfport.
