MSgt. James Ted Simpson, USAF - Retired, age 82, passed away on March 12, 2021 in Gulfport, Mississippi. James was born in McCool, Mississippi and was a graduate of McCool High School. He was a former resident of Largo, Florida and moved to Gulfport, Mississippi with his wife Linda in 2003. He was a graduate of St. Leo University in St. Leo, Florida and served in the United States Air Force for 23 years. He worked in avionics & was a radar systems specialist for the military. He did his training at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi and also assisted in special programs for the Navy and NASA.
After military retirement, Ted worked for civil service for the Department of Defense in Quality Assurance and retired again. He was a lifelong Baptist and extremely involved in various church ministries. He served as a deacon and was involved in the prison ministries and evangelism, as well as the Singles Car Ministry, where single mothers could take their car to him for free repairs.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Coy F. Simpson, Sr. and Vivian Ellison Simpson; one brother, Coy F. Simpson, Jr.; and one sister, Sue Stokes.
Ted is survived by his wife, Linda M. Simpson; three children, Ray Simpson, Rhonda Kinder, and Sharina Davis; brother, Bill Simpson; numerous grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A private graveside service with military honors will be held on Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at Biloxi National Cemetery. Following the graveside service, a public memorial will be held at 12:00 PM at the First Presbyterian Church of Gulfport, 10885 O'Neal Rd, Gulfport, MS.
