James E. Parker, age 84 and a resident of Gulfport, passed away Wednesday, March 11, 2009, in Gulfport.
Mr. Parker was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was a past member of Long Beach United Methodist Church, where he served on the Administration Board; and he was a current member of Nugent United Methodist Church, Gulfport, where he was active in various leadership positions. Mr. Parker was also a member of the Southern Star Masonic Lodge #500, Long Beach. He retired from Bell Telephone Company after 30 years and was a longtime pecan grower and member of MS/AL Pecan Growers Associations. He served on Long Beach School Board for five years where he was a past president. Mr. Parker also served in WWII in the United States Marine Corp and retired from the Marine Corp Reserves after 22 years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Carol L. Parker, of Gulfport; his children, Bradley J. Parker and his wife, Debbie, of Wellington, FL, Susan C. Craig and her husband, David, of Plano, TX, Greg S. Parker of Jackson, MS, and Lawrence S. Parker and his wife, Lisa, of Gulfport; his sisters, Doris Bradley and Katherine Brumfield, both of Hattiesburg; ten grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2009 at 5:30 PM at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Rd, Gulfport, where family and friends may visit from 4:30 PM until service time. Burial will be on Friday, March 13, 2009 at 10:00 AM at Biloxi National Cemetery.
