James P. “Jimmy” Johnson, age 85, of Saucier, passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2024.
He was preceded in death by a son, John Sherman “Johnny” Johnson; his parents, J.P. and Viola Johnson; and a sister, Janelle Parnell.
Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ruth Ann Johnson; his children, James Terry Johnson and his wife Sherri and Lee Jay Johnson and his wife Casey; his grandchildren, Krystel Hannon, Amanda Johnson-Williams, Jacob Johnson, Kourtney Johnson, Dylan Cook, Allie Down, and Gabrielle Sumrall; his great-grandchildren, Jeremiah Hannon, Ciaira Mae Hannon, Mary Anna Hannon, Thea Hannon, Chloe Hannon, Colton Johnson-Williams, Conor Johnson-Williams, Jacob Johnson, Jr, Joelle Johnson, John Hallis Johnson, Kinzleigh Down, Creed Down, and Annaliese Cuevas; and other relatives and friends.
He was a native of Hattiesburg and a long time resident of Saucier. He was a graduate of Brooklyn Agricultural High School and attended Perkinston Junior College (MS Gulf Coast Community College) on a football scholarship. He retired as an operator at MS Power Company after 32 years of service.
Jimmy was a dedicated loving husband, father, and grandfather. A hardworking farmer, a talented artist who loved to paint, woodworking, carving, and taxidermy. He was an avid deer hunter and fisherman who loved the outdoors. His special love was white tail deer – he chased them until the end! He loved to run deer dogs with his local hunting buddies and crew especially Mitch Ladner aka “nail driver!” He also enjoyed his lifelong friends Robert and Dot Anderson, Bobby Bradford, and Davey Ladner to name a few. His greatest interest and accomplishment was his family.
He will be sadly missed by his wife, family and anyone who new him.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Poplar Head Methodist Church, 13196 Poplarhead Drive, Saucier, MS 39574.
Visitation will be on Saturday, April 20, 2024, from 1 – 3 pm at the Poplar Head Methodist Church. The funeral service will be at 3 pm in the church. Interment will be in Poplar Head Cemetery.
