James Merrill Mowry, age 72 of Pass Christian, passed away peacefully at the Dixie White House Rehabilitation facility from complications of heart disease on February 28, 2015.
He was born to the late Merrill B. and Avonell Mowry of Sandy Lake, Pennsylvania, on May 21, 1942, in Mercer County, PA.
Mr. Mowry was the founder and owner of South Eastern Equipment and Installation out of Gulfport, a successful 20 year company. He graduated from Lake View High School in 1960. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Arts from California State University in California, PA, in 1965. He began his long career teaching industrial arts to young students in the state of California. Later he was employed by Chicago Pneumatic Tool as a production supervisor, and a bulk systems sales manager for the Conair Group, both companies out of Franklin, PA. In 1984 he moved to Gulfport where he built and ran his own company installing silos and pneumatic conveying systems for companies in the southern United States and Puerto Rico. After retirement, he enjoyed working part time for Pat Peck Nissan/ Kia but mostly enjoyed his work helping to rewire homes devastated by Hurricane Katrina.
He is survived by his son, W. James (Carri) Mowry, of Manassas, VA; his daughter, Jill Ann (Kurt) Hoffman, of Conestoga, PA; his sister, Judith A. Arnold, of Alexandria, VA; his grandchildren, Katlyn Michelle Mowry, Elizabeth Anne (Daniel) Servansky, Jaimie (Shawn) Kelly, and Michael Stromberg; his two great grandchildren, Faith and Isabella Kelly; and many nieces and nephews. He was the former husband of Suzanne White Metro, of Stoneboro, PA, and Patricia Law, of Pass Christian, MS.
He will be remembered for his quick dry sense of humor and chuckle, his deep love for Southern weather and the beautiful gulf water, and his Pittsburgh Steelers. He will also be missed by his breakfast friends at Dennys and the good people at the Caribbean in the Pass.
A celebration of life memorial will be held at a later date in Sandy Lake, Pennsylvania.
