James W. Laycock, 66, resident of Gulfport, MS, died Tuesday May 2, 2017, at Memorial Hospital at Gulfport after a three week illness.
Jim was born January 23, 1951, in Derry, New Hampshire, the son of John Noble Laycock and Edith Washburn Laycock. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Gulfport and was retired from the U.S. Department of Defense. He was a skilled electrical engineer. He graduated from the University of New Hampshire and was a distinguished graduate of ROTC. Jim served his country in the U.S. Air Force.
A devoted husband and supporter of the arts, Jim was a member of the Ocean Springs Art Association. His love of the arts and his generous donation of time, talent, and financial resources was evident in so many ways and a testimony to his appreciation of his wife. He was always helping his wife Mary Joyce with her love of pottery. Together they shared years of happy times in helping make their community a more beautiful place to live. He was equally generous in helping family members in innumerable ways. His love for his wife and their lives together extended to his nieces and nephews and their families.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Mary Joyce Hinds Laycock; three sisters, Gail McGowan, Pam Lavoie (Paul) and Jean Haslin (Bill); two brothers-in-law, Joe M. Hinds (Jamie) and Howard Hinds (Sara); and his nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at 10:30 am until service time, Saturday, May 6, 2017, at 11:30 am at First United Methodist Church of Gulfport.
The family requests that memorials be made to the Humane Society of South Mississippi, www.hssm.org or a charity of your choice.
