James Arthur Kilpatrick, age 60, passed away on June 12, 2009, in Saucier.
He was born on April 9, 1949, in Elba, AL. He spent his service time in the U.S. Navy Sea Bees MCB 121. He served two tours in Vietnam where he served as a builder. He was a member of the Vietnam Era Sea Bees and the MCB 121 Association. He learned to draw blueprints in his spare time. On his 2nd tour in Vietnam he also taught himself to play the guitar and loved Merle Haggerd songs.
He was a General Contractor and previous co-owner of H&K Salvage Store for 21 years and co-owner of K-Shaw Specialty Contractors. He enjoyed fishing, camping, motorcycles and street rodding. He was a member of the Orange Grove Cruisers and Co-founder of the Backtracker cruisers. He designed and custom made hot rods for himself and others.
Mr. Kilpatrick was preceded in death by his father Arthur Lee Kilpatrick and mother Odesa Thomas Kilpatrick of Enterprise, AL.
He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Shirley L. Kilpatrick. one son, Mitch Ladner (Stacey) of Saucier, daughter, Lisa Ladner, of Biloxi, and daughter Robyn L. Shaw (Terry) of Saucier; seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren; brother, Bill Kilpatrick (Jean) of Enterprise, AL, Alan Kilpatrick (Teresa) of Saucier, Bobby Roy Kilpatrick of Long Beach and Robert Earl Kilpatrick (Claudia) of Topeka, KS, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was of the Baptist faith and in lieu of flowers, gifts can be made to the building program at First Baptist Church of Lizana.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2009, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Rd., Gulfport.
The funeral service will be held on Sunday, June 14, 2009, at First Baptist Church Lizana at 3:00 PM with visitation one hour prior to service. Burial will follow at Ladner Family Cemetery on Esther Road.
