James Edward Hunt was born in Gibson County, TN on September 29, 1920, and passed away at the age of 90 on November 17, 2010 at his home in Gulfport, surrounded by his loving family.
As a graduate of Hattiesburg High School, he was a senior at Mississippi State University when he entered the Army Air Corps in 1942. He served for two and one-half years as a flight instructor of AT-6s and P-40s and eighteen months in the European field flying P-38s and P-51s with the ninth Air Force in England, France, Belgium, and Germany. Upon his discharge from active service, he held the rank of Captain, having received commendations including the Presidential Citation, Distinguished Flying Cross with Seven Oak Leaf Clusters, European Theater of Operations with Four Battle Stars, the American Theater Ribbon, the World War II Ribbon, and was the only United States pilot to receive the Air Medal. Mr. Hunt served for twenty years in the Air Force Reserve, attaining the rank of Lt. Colonel.
Mr. Hunt became a resident of Gulfport, MS in 1938 as a professional businessman and was a founding member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Gulfport.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Joe Hunt and Opal Amelia Banks Hunt, a twin brother, Donaldson Lain Hunt, and daughter Susan Hunt Watts.
Mr. Hunt is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, June Gillis Hunt, a son, James Edward Hunt, Jr. (Diane), one granddaughter, Sheri Michele Watts, two grandsons, Robert Jason Hunt (Amanda) and Jerrod Scott Hunt (Lisa), and three great grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held on Friday, November 19, 2010, at 2:00 PM at Trinity United Methodist Church, Gulfport, where family and friends may visit from 1:00 PM until service time.
Private family graveside burial will take place at Southern Memorial Park in Biloxi.
