Colonel James Richard Hopkins, U.S. Army, Retired, age 85, of Diamondhead, MS, passed away on Wednesday, October 10, 2012, in Gulfport.
Richard was born in Grayson, MO to Paul Francis and Christine Virginia George Hopkins. He graduated from Rockhurst College in Kansas City, MO, and retired from the United States Army where he served during the Korean War. After retirement, he worked as the Accounting and Finance Officer at Whiteman Air Force Base in Knobnoster, MO. He was an avid golfer and pilot, enjoyed genealogy, and loved animals. He and his wife of 64 years, Thelma, have been residents of Diamondhead since 1987.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Joseph Francis Hopkins.
He is survived by his wife, Thelma L. Hopkins of Diamondhead; sister, Helen Rea of Williamsburg, KS; two cousins, Barry Mortimeyer of Sacramento, CA, and Leslie Dahm of Reno, NV, as well as a host of other cousins and extended family.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 13, 2012, at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 9113 Kiln Delisle Road, at 10:00 a.m. Friends may visit one hour prior to services.
Burial will take place at Platte City Cemetery in Missouri in the George Family plot with full military honors provided by the U.S. Army.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to charity of one's choice.
