James Louis Hemmer, 82, of Diamondhead, MS passed away Saturday, January 7, 2023.
Jim was a long time resident of Marrero, Louisiana. He retired from the U. S. Navy after 20 years of service. He later retired from 20 years of service at Cytec. He loved being around his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was so looking forward to the birth of his first great, great grandson, Bryson Michael “Little Jimmy” Bourgeois. He enjoyed being at home, watching Gunsmoke and going to the casino. Other hobbies included hunting, fishing, and woodworking. James was a member of the American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 46 years, Janice L. Hemmer; and his parents, John and Theresa Hemmer.
Jim is survived by his children, Debra D. Hemmer (Gene Bumbalough), and Jerry C. Avery (Denise); his brother, Earl Hemmer (Christine); his grandchildren, Nicole Simoneaux (Gerritt), and Janice McGrath Gonzales; his five great grandchildren, Trey Ockman (Chloe Demoll), Kelsi Roark (Alec Bourgeois), Evan Roark, MaKayla Simoneaux, and Mia Gonzales; and his unborn great, great grandchild, Bryson Michael “Little Jimmy” Bourgeois.
Jim was a wonderful man, dad, and Paw-Paw. He had a humorous personality and a smile that would brighten a room. He will be deeply missed by all who loved him.
The graveside service will be held on Monday, January 16, 2023 at 12:30pm at Biloxi National Cemetery. Riemann Family Funeral Home, 9113 Kiln Delisle Rd., Pass Christian is serving the family.
