James Hancock, age 82 of Long Beach, passed away on December 18, 2018.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Curtis Dewey Hancock and Mildred Alice Hancock; and his siblings, C.D. Hancock, Don Hancock and Joe Hancock.
James is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Hancock of Long Beach; his children, Debra Lavigne of Long Beach; Donna Burns and Jimmy Hancock, Jr. both of Gulfport, and Scott Hancock of Pass Christian; his siblings, Phillip Hancock, Mildred Johnson, and Betty Lou Holder; his grandchildren, Joseph Pearce, Christy Pearce, Andrea Hancock, Rachel Hancock, Hanna Hancock and Bryce Hancock; and his great grandchild, Charlotte Barker.
Mr. Hancock was the owner, with his wife, Mary, of a dry cleaning business in his early years. He later was involved with labor contracts for the government and then was owner /operator of Hancock Auto Sales. He was the former Commodore of the Long Beach Yacht Club and was responsible for its reconstruction after Hurricane Katrina. James was a member of the Long Beach Port Commission for over 25 years.
A faithful Christian, he was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church in Long Beach. He was an avid boatman and enjoyed many days on the water with Mary and his children.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, December 21, 2018at 11:00 AM at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 19130 Commission Rd., Long Beach, with a visitation for family and friends from 10:00 AM until the service. Burial will follow in Long Beach City Cemetery.
