James Garrold " Jerry" Owen

July 1, 1943 — December 14, 2024

James Garrold Owen, affectionately known as "Jerry," was born on July 1, 1943, in Lumberton, Mississippi. He passed away peacefully on December 14, 2024, in Long Beach, Mississippi.

Jerry dedicated his life to music, seamlessly blending his passion with his profession. He spent many years employed at Sears Parts in Gulfport. Music was more than a career for Jerry; it was a vital part of his existence.

Educated at Long Beach High School, Jerry also served honorably in the United States Air Force for four years, a testament to his dedication and commitment to his country.

In addition to his music, Jerry enjoyed other pursuits such as golfing, watching his beloved teams—the Saints and the Braves—alongside game shows and trips to the casinos. These interests brought him joy and provided him with many memorable moments throughout his life.

Jerry was not only a talented musician but also a devoted family man. He is survived by his beloved wife, Leslie Owen, who lovingly shared her life with him as his best friend, partner, and soulmate. Jerry had three loving children; Sherry Winkler (Brian), Michele Holliman (Russell), and James Gary Owen (Jennifer). Jerry's tight knit family consisted of his siblings, Mike Owen, Susan Patterson, Marcia Lumpkin, and Laura Reed. He was a proud grandfather to Cortnie Deschamp, T.J. Linthurst, Derick McGill, Katelyn McGill, Lauren Winkler, and Kailey Owen, and he was blessed to have six great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, James (Jim) Owen and Versie Tabb, as well as his brothers, Ronnie, Steve, and Roger Owen, and his grandson, Caleb Owen.

Jerry was one of a kind, inside and out. He was such a kind, gentle soul. He cared greatly for so many during his music career. He truly loved his dear friends outside of and in his band. He was a wonderful Father, Pop Pop, Brother, Uncle, friend and the Best Husband.

In his beloved wife Leslie’s words; “He was the love of my life, my best friend, partner, my heart, and my angel! I want to thank everyone for their love, thoughts, and prayers during this trying and troubled time. His presence on this earth will be greatly missed. Fly High My Darlin'!”

The family would like to thank the VFW Post 2434 and the Moose Lodge of D'Iberville, MS.

A visitation will be held from 1:00-2:00 PM, Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at Riemann Family Funeral Home, Long Beach, with a service beginning at 2:00 PM.
