James H. "Jimmy" Ferguson, age 71, formerly of Urbanna, died unexpectedly,
Friday, March 22, 2019.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his father, J. Waverly Ferguson, Jr.; and
grandparents, J.W. "Buster" and Blanche Ferguson, and Alfred and Corola
Henkel.
Following in the footsteps of his grandfather and father, Jimmy made a lifelong
career in the seafood industry. The former owner of Jim Ferguson Seafood
Company and Market at Cooks Corner, VA, Jimmy transitioned into sales and
became a broker for various seafood products with oysters being his
specialty.
Jimmy was an avid fisherman for years. He loved deep sea fishing off the
shores of Cape Hatteras, NC, where he also enjoyed the comradery of fellow
fishermen. He remained friends with many of them and they readily share
tales of Jimmy's many adventures. Most of them quite colorful! This comes
as no surprise because Jimmy had many friends, and most all have stories and
adventures to share!
Jimmy loved sports. He was an avid Colts and Orioles fan and loved college
football and basketball. He was an armchair critic and loved calling friends
and family to discuss predictions, results, and top news. Jimmy is still
remembered as a member of the infamous "Heathens" softball team in
Middlesex. Known for their antics on and off the field, Jimmy was a major
contributor.
In recent years, arthritis had slowed Jimmy down, but did not keep him from
using the phone. He loved reaching out to friends and family, and especially
enjoyed reconnecting with old friends. He had a big heart and his calls will be
missed.
Jimmy is survived by his mother, Corola H. Ferguson; his siblings, Jack
Ferguson (Robin), Joe Ferguson, Tricia Herrin (Felix), and Jerry Ferguson;
seven nieces and nephews, Valerie F. Reeves, Sarah Ferguson, Waverly
Ferguson, Matt Ferguson, Benjamin Rennolds, Jr., Greg Rennolds, Jeremy
Herrin; and eight great-nephew and nieces.
At Jimmy's request, there will be no service, so instead say a prayer and raise a
glass to a life well lived. Jimmy would like that.
The family wishes to thank Phyllis and Joe Jenkins for all they have done
and continue to do. There are no words to adequately express our
appreciation. We would also like to thank those who have reached out to us
with your condolences, kind words, thoughts and prayers. It has meant so
much, and has been comforting.
RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport, is serving the family.
