James Holden Cochran, 93, died Friday, May 15, 2009, at the Loyalton of Biloxi.
Mr. Cochran was a true Mississippian. He loved the state and the people in it. He grew up in Eupora, worked most of his life in Starkville, and retired to the Gulf Coast. Like many Mississippians, his interests, occupation, and education were in agriculture. He earned degrees in both entomology and plant pathology and used them to help the people of the state. He worked, at various times, for the US Department of Agriculture, the State Plant Board of MS, and the MS State Extension Service. He was deeply religious, a life-long member of the Methodist Church and a member of Leggett Memorial Methodist at his death.
His wife, Opal Byrd Cochran, and his parents, Elijah Alexander and Rosa Holden Cochran, preceded him in death.
Mr. Cochran is survived by three daughters: Ruth Walker of Albuquerque, NM, Rosanne Walker of Spanish Fort, AL, and Nita Owen of Ocean Springs, MS; three son-in-laws, six grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren.
His family was a source of pride and joy to him, as he was to them. All remember his loving patience and kindness, and they will sorely miss him.
