James Rufus "Jim" Carter

Mr. James ""Jim"" Rufus Carter, 76, of Gulfport died July 6, 2011 in Gulfport.
Mr. Carter was born January 25, 1935 in Gulfport. He was a graduate of Gulfport High School and Auburn University. He was a longtime member of Bayou View Baptist Church in Gulfport.
Mr. Carter served his country in the United States Navy and retired from the United States Postal Service.
He enjoyed and was devoted to his family and friends.
Mr. Carter was preceded in death by his wife, Celeste Reid Carter; son, James Taylor Carter; parents, Rufus and Vera Carter; and sister, Jane Carter McMullen.
He is survived by his son, Jonathan Reid Carter of Gulfport; daughter, Jennie Carter Grammer (Kurt) of Northport, AL; grandsons, Jon-Taylor Grammer and Conrad Grammer both of Northport, AL; sister, Lynn Carter Young (Jerry) of Gulfport; sister-in-law, Georgia Edmiston of Mary Esther, FL; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
A graveside service will be held at 9:00 am, Monday, July 11, 2011 at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Gulfport.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to be made to Humane Society of South Mississippi, 2615 25th Avenue Gulfport, MS 39501-4832; American Cancer Society, 417 Security Sq. Gulfport, MS 39507; or Bayou View Baptist Church Building Fund, 4709 Chamberlain Avenue Gulfport, MS 39507.
