James F. Campbell, Sr., 91, former Wisconsin resident and retired accomplished engineer, died Sunday, July 1, 2012, at his home in Diamondhead, MS, after a hard fought battle with cancer.
On June 3, 1921, he was born in Menasha, to John and Mary (Mackin) Campbell. He attended Appleton West High School and graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a bachelor's degree in engineering.
Jim was a design engineer with Appleton Machine Co. from 1946 to 1950 and with Bagley & Sewall until 1953. He retired as Vice President of Engineering from Paper Converting Machine Company, Green Bay after working there for 33 years.
A devout Catholic, Jim was involved in many ministries in every parish he attended.
An avid golfer, he enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and Sudoku as well as playing chess online with his sons and grandsons. He had a passion for building World War I & II model airplanes. As a result he accumulated a remarkable collection. His enthusiasm spilled over to the neighborhood boys who would linger outside his workshop, enthralled with the tiny planes and eager to be his apprentice.
Jim is survived by his wife, Carolyn Sue; daughters, Mary (Gerald) Goeden, Patricia Sowell, Nancy (Dennis) Folz, Bridget (James) Lehmann; sons, James (Debbie) Campbell, Jr., Kevin Campbell, Robert (Roberta) Campbell; stepson, Timothy (Lynn) Reed; 15 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, John; his sisters, Jane and Marion ""Bunny""; his 1st wife, Janice; and his stepson, Kelly Reed.
Friends may call at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 1484 Ninth St., from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Friday, July 13. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the church with the Rev. Mark Falcone, O.Praem officiating. Burial will be in Fort Howard Memorial Park. Blaney Funeral Home is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, Jim requested Masses be offered for his intentions.
