James C. Byrne

James C. Byrne, Jr., age 85, of Diamondhead passed away on July 21, 2012. Mr. Byrne was born on March 27, 1927, in Jackson, MS. He grew up in Monticello, MS, and graduated from McComb High School. After high school he served in the US Army during WW II. He also is a graduate of Mississippi State University School of Business, and is a lifetime member of MSU Alumni Association.
Mr. Byrne worked for Sears for 13 years and after that he owned and operated a Western Auto Associate Store over a period of 30 years, in Hattiesburg and Petal. He sold the store in 1998 and moved to Diamondhead where he has resided for the last 14 years.
Mr. Byrne is preceded in death by his parents James C. and Lucille Maxwell Byrne, Sr., his stepson. Robert Francis Jernigan, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Sims Byrne; his children, James Wesley (Betty Jo) Byrne of Austin, TX, John Trussell (Stacey) Byrne of Vicksburg, MS, Brian Fletcher (Jeanne) Jernigan of Long Beach, MS, and Vickie Jernigan (Mike) Kiehm of Richmond, VA; grandchildren, James Patrick Byrne, Taylor E. Byrne, Jamee' (Michael) Chalker, Dr. Jeremy Todd (Sheila) Jernigan, John Fletcher Jernigan, and Jamie Jernigan (Kenny) Francingues; great-grandchildren, Taylor, Tiffani, Ansley, Taylor and Kenny, Jr.
Mr. Byrne loved gardening, fishing and MSU sports. He was a member of Diamondhead United Methodist Church, where he served as finance chairman for several years.
The funeral service will be Saturday, July 28, 2012 at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 9113 Kiln Delisle Road, Pass Christian, MS at 4:00 PM, with visitation one hour prior. Interment will be at a later date in Roseland Park Cemetery in Hattiesburg, MS. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Diamondhead United Methodist Church or St. Jude Children's Hospital.
