MSgt James ""Jim"" M. Barry, USMC, Retired, age 71, of Long Beach, passed away on Sunday, February 22, 2015.
MSgt Barry was born in Altoona, PA to Sam and Virginia Filer Barry. He entered in the United States Marine Corps as a 17 year old. He served in Vietnam where he received numerous awards including two Purple Hearts and the Navy Achievement Medal. He retired from active duty after 22 years of service. He then entered Civil Service where he worked on the SeaBee Base in the Security Department for another 20 years. Jim recently served as Commander of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Hattiesburg Chapter until he was unable to continue to serve. In his personal life, Jim enjoyed fishing, but his true love was coaching his daughter and then his granddaughter's softball teams. He often thought of it as his third career.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Beverly and Ruth Ann Barry.
He is survived by his wife of almost 49 years, Trellis R. Barry of Long Beach; daughter, Cinnamon Barry of Long Beach; granddaughter, Morgan Barry of Long Beach; and two brothers, Dean Barry and Clare Roddy.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 25, 2015, at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 19130 Commission Road, Long Beach, from 6:00-8:00pm.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 26, 2015, in the funeral home chapel at 9:45am. Burial will follow at Biloxi National Cemetery.
The family prefers memorials to the Military Order of the Purple Heart.
