GULFPORT

James Robert Ashby, age 85, resident of Pass Christian, MS, passed away suddenly the morning of September 2, 2021.

He lived a long and fulfilled life with his family and friends whom he adored.  James was born in Sydney, Australia.  He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of New South Wales.  After college, he worked for various companies as a consulting engineer that eventually led him to Vietnam in 1992 where he met his wife, Hue Roettele.  Jim built a life in Vietnam and oversaw the construction of resorts, malls, and other large commercial projects.   He was very inquisitive and always wanted to know how something worked.

Jim retired to Pass Christian in 2016 and continued his love of building and gardening at The Rusty Pelican.  Jim could be found most days tending to the various fruit trees and plants at the restaurant or feeding the fish in the koi pond he constantly improved.

He is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Hue Roettele of Pass Christian, MS; his children, Phillip Ashby of South Australia and Joanne Ashby of Queensland, Australia; ten grandchildren and many adoring friends across the world.
