Jake Lewis, Jr. age 88, of Biloxi, MS, passed away on Wednesday, April 16, 2025.
Jakes was born in Epps, Louisiana. He retired after a 30-year career in the Air Force with the Department of Defense Civil Service (U.S.A.F: W.S. 13). His job was Electronics Integrated Systems Superintendent (G.S. 13). Jake’s official title was Senior General Master Sergeant. Jake had over 10 jobs throughout his life. Two of his favorite jobs were being a camera repairman in Jackson, MS and projection work for the movies in Epps, LA.
Jake was heavily involved in Aviation and repair with Keesler Air Force Base. He was a troop leader of the Cub and Boy scouts of America, awarded a 9-skill level in propulsion and avionics with a score of 95%, he sustained 3 superior performance awards, and was a public figure and speaker when needed.
He was always personable. He loved to take senior group trips with his wife to see musicals and to eat with friends. His favorite music was old soul country such as Hank Williams Sr. and Kitty Wells. Jake was very work oriented and loved to work on things whether it be electronics or cars. He was very talented in all he decided to do.
Jake was a long-time member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church where he received the Apostolic blessing from Pope John Paul II for charity and contributions. He was on the maintenance team and electrician for over 20 years for the church. He donated to St. Jude’s Children Hospital, Charles Stanley, St. Vincent De Paul and more throughout his life.
Jake was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Vera Marie Harden Lewis; his mother, Angie McDermitt Kite Lewis; his father, Jake Fortner Lewis; his brothers, Joseph Leroy Lewis, Robert “Blackie” Waymon Lewis; his half-sister, Elexal Leola Kite; his half-brothers, Joseph “J.H.” Harley Kite, Clifton Kite; his aunt, Beatrice Thorton; his sister-in-laws, Glinda Lewis, Joe Ann Lewis, Geraldine “Judy” Lewis, and Sue Lewis; and his daughter-in-law, Laura Ost.
He is survived by his children, Jake Lewis III (Lisa), Charles Jesse Lewis (Kathy), John Steven Lewis, Vera Ann Marie Lewis (Mattthew Wayne Pates); his brother, Clifford Ferman Lewis; his grandchildren, Jake Lewis IV (Cati), Samantha Nichole Cuevas (Dennis), Steven Lewis (Emily), Jesse Fritz (Hannah), JoAnn Marie Pates, Megan Marie Lewis, and Shelby Darlene Lewis; and his great grandchildren, Danson D. Cuevas, Chloie Cuevas, Ariel Marie Jasmine Lewis, Leah Belle Lewis and Eliza Fritz.
